Impetus

Impetus maps an MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) keyboard to DAW mixing functions. Its creator, a sound editor and composer, treated each key's y-axis gesture as a substitute for a mixing-board fader, freeing desk space otherwise needed for a dedicated control surface.

The software runs an 8-channel surface using the HUI or Mackie Control protocols and covers all major functions. It was developed over roughly a year and introduced in a Hacker News post.
